Robin Hudson-Griffiths joins ORIS, to accelerate its development in the UK

October4, 2022

Robin Hudson-Griffiths joins ORIS, the first materials intelligence platform for sustainable infrastructure, as Director of Consulting UK. In this role, Robin will accelerate and consolidate ORIS’s presence in the UK market with key customers and partners.

ORIS assesses linear infrastructure designs through artificial intelligence. By analyzing parameters such as local resources, expected traffic and weather conditions, the digital platform offers its users a multi-dimensional analysis to optimize whole life costs, carbon emissions, circularity, durability, road user safety and resilience of infrastructure projects. It allows designers, investors and public authorities to make informed decisions based on data knowledge for more sustainable infrastructure.

Robin is a chartered civil engineer and brings over 25 years of experience in road pavement engineering in the UK. Robin started his career in construction materials testing and assessment before joining the engineering consultancy Halcrow Group where he held various roles as pavement engineer. His latest role was as Senior Pavement Advisor for National Highways.

The optimization of road pavement designs is a key feature of the ORIS platform. Previous projects show that using ORIS to assess the impact of materials on road projects can optimize pavement designs in terms of costs (up to -15%), carbon footprint (up to -50%) and raw materials use (up to -80%).

In the UK, ORIS has already delivered successful support to a number of projects. In particular, the platform was used last year to generate a carbon neutral scheme for the 6km reconstruction of an existing carriageway which ran from the M6 Jct 36 and the Brettargh Holt roundabout in Cumbria. Early analysis of the design through ORIS enabled a very low carbon pavement solution that was offset to reach carbon neutrality. The scheme was recognized by the 2021 Highways Awards with the Environmental Sustainability and the Special Merit Awards.

In February 2022, ORIS also received the National Highways Industry Award for Excellence in Sustainability, Environment, and Carbon Reduction, through the Implementation of a Technological Change.

Last month, ORIS was recognized by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) with the International Infrastructure Award.
