Frequently Asked Questions
How much time does it take to create a certificate?
The time needed to input the data in the ORIS CO2-calculator depends on the ease of access you have to the data. Once you submit your calculation, you will receive your results within 1 week.
The results contain a CO2-certificate with your results that you can share, and a confidential study report detailing your input data and the methodology used which is only intended to the producer and should not be shared publicly.
Is it possible to specify several standards for one product?
Yes, it is easily possible to select several standards for each one of your products.
Do I have to enter each product individually? Can I create product groups?
We collect data for the whole plant, all at once. In the A3 stage related to the manufacturing activities, you are able to create groups of products which have the same production process. Finally, you are able to indicate each product separately to get its specific footprint. The flow is user friendly and developed to avoid redundant data collection.
Can I use the tool to simulate the impact of improving my process?
For now, Oris Calculator CO₂ is focusing on GWP as it will soon become mandatory with the new CPR regulation. As the regulation evolves to include other indicators, we will adapt the tool to meet the CPR requirements.
In addition, the tool complies with the EN 15804+A2 standard and has been developed in accordance with the recommendations of the CIRAIG, a leading independent LCA research centre in the world, which gives our tool a high level of scientific robustness.
How is the data verified?
As of now, the veracity of the inputs in the ORIS CO2 Calculator is the only responsibility of the company. The attention on this point is specifically drawn in the tool as it is very important. Also, we use the 1-week period between the submission and the sending of the values to check if data are plausible.
In a second phase of the ORIS CO2 Calculator development, several strategies will be implemented to prevent uncertainties or mistakes in the inputs, with the implementation of some plausibility checks or more detailed guidance for inputting the correct data.
Can the tool provide an independent calculation?
The ORIS CO2 Calculator is based on real data, meaning the extraction site is already existing. It is not a simulator at the moment. However, it could be possible to assess a similar production site, to get knowledge about it and be more informed before making the decision.
Also, our tool provides non-aggregated results for A1-A3, meaning the results for A1 (extraction of raw materials), A2 (transport from extraction to manufacturing) and A3 (manufacturing) are displayed separately, bringing even more transparency about the impact of the different stages.
Will my data be secure?
ORIS has been an independent company since October 2021. Our strong integrity and ethics ensure that data is not shared with Holcim. What's more, to reinforce this position, we are SOC2 Type II certified, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data security and privacy.
How often should I do a CO2 footprint analysis?
The calculation of the Global Warming Potential is a snapshot of the situation at a given time. As the measurement is the first step towards improvement of sustainable practices and reduction of the GWP footprint, we believe that the calculation should be done regularly. Hence, our CO2 certificate is valid only for 1 year, to be transparent about the value and what it represents - the GWP footprint at a given time.
Regarding the environmental dataset which are used for the calculation, it will be updated regularly based on a sensitivity analysis.
CO2 reduction can be costly, will there be a legal obligation to implement it?
In Germany, the new Bauprodukteverordnung (BVO), which will be published soon will make it mandatory to declare the Global Warming Potential footprint of construction products, but not to act on it yet. The same regulations regarding declarations are coming all across Europe.
But so far, we don’t see any proof of obligation to reduce the GWP footprint of products.
How can I assess whether my calculation result is good or bad?
There is no public benchmark at the moment. This is also the need we address with our ORIS CO2 Calculator: to give transparency about the Global Warming Potential footprint of aggregates.
When we have a sufficient number of calculations done, we will provide an average value, enabling our users to position themselves among the other ORIS CO2 Calculator users. The more users and calculated products we will have, the more accurate the average value will be and representative of the market.
Is it available for recycled aggregates?
Yes, the CO2 Calculator is available for recycled aggregates. We currently have a separate data collection sheet, which we are in the process of improving with test users, before developing this functionality on the ORIS CO2 Calculator.
Are there already initial approaches for carbonated recycled grains?
For the moment, we can take into account the use of recycled carbonated sand if its carbon footprint has already been calculated, otherwise we take default values.
Our calculator cannot calculate the carbon footprint of hydrated lime, for example.
Are there plans to expand the carbon footprint portfolio to other products?
ORIS is indeed determined to provide CO2 calculators for various building and infrastructure products to help people in their decision-making process. We are currently developing CO2 calculators for asphalt products.
The assessment of complex projects involving bridges, roads and linear infrastructure in general is possible on our ORIS platform through our consultancy services.
Is there a demo version where I can use the tool myself?
We don’t have any demo version but you can book a demo with us to see the tool at any time and have more insights about the information you will need to input.
What are the cancellation conditions?
You can cancel your licence up to one month before renewal.
